Service Trainer (bilingual Spanish & English)

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for conducting, coordinating, and implementing a comprehensive commercial vehicle service training program for all dealerships and internal employees. The program includes instruction on complete vehicle construction and function, diagnostics and repair of emissions/after treatment, diesel engine, transmission (AT/MT), electrical systems, suspension and steering, hydraulic and air brakes, HVAC, and usage of Isuzu service-related tools (i.e., scanning tool, web-based workshop manual, etc.). Also provides feedback related to market quality issues to Isuzu.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Conducts training classes for dealers in Latin America & the Caribbean (in both Spanish & English), fleets, and internal employees. Includes coordination of training materials, components, tools, classroom logistics, etc. Training topics related to construction, function, diagnosis, and repair of different vehicle systems including:

  • Diesel engine and emissions
  • Transmission (manual/automatic)
  • Basic and advanced electronics
  • Hydraulic and air braking systems
  • Chassis, suspension, steering, and driveline
  • Air conditioning
  • Usage of Isuzu service-related tools
  • Non-technical training (Service Advisor, Service Manager, etc.)

2. Assists Curriculum Developer to create, update, and maintain training materials for complete commercial vehicle sold by Isuzu dealer network. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Hands-on training materials, student processes, and testing methods
  • Translating material between English and Spanish
  • Computer-based and web-based training modules

3. Provides technical assistance to dealers including troubleshooting and repair procedures in coordination with International Service Department – Isuzu Japan.

4. Maintains Isuzu Latin America & Caribbean (ILAC) Learning Management System (LMS) by updating users, training material, certifications, and regularly informing the completion ratio of the virtual training program.

5. Checks, maintains, and updates the inventory in all Isuzu Training Facilities related to ILAC training operations.

6. Assists in ILAC events such as Regional Skill Competition including layout and evaluation for contests.

7. Maintains current level of expertise through participation in ongoing “Train the Trainer” type instruction, including travel to Isuzu-Japan.

8. Conducts, trains, and implements Isuzu Dealer Standards (IDS) focused on the aftersale business.

9. Performs miscellaneous job duties as assigned.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

  • Reports to: Sr. Manager, Aftersales & Training

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING

  • Bachelor’s degree in Automotive or Diesel Technology or equivalent directly related work experience
  • Minimum three years of experience in product support for a company that sells and services automotive technical and/or diesel engine-related products
  • Minimum three years of experience as a repair technician or equivalent directly related work experience, preferably as an instructor, automotive engineer, or skilled technician (ASE certification preferred).

KNOWLEDGE

  • Strong knowledge of diesel/IC engine and powertrain systems
  • Knowledge of dealer service operations
  • Basic knowledge of structuring and delivering instructional or educational materials
  • Understanding of service and parts operations including warranty systems and claims

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Proficient PC skills in all Windows applications (database, graphics, presentation, spreadsheet and word processing)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Fluency in Spanish and English Required
  • Strong mechanical and technical skills
  • Effective negotiation and problem resolution skills
  • Ability to work on numerous projects/tasks concurrently
  • Must have Class E driver’s license and additionally have or have ability to obtain Class A, Class B, or Class C driver’s license, and maintain acceptable driving record
  • Forklift permit desirable

PHYSICAL STANDARDS

The employee must be able to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer. There are occasional instances requiring lifting of light to average objects (5 lbs. to 60 lbs.) and rare instances requiring lifting of heavy objects (over 60 lbs.). Position has exposure to heat, cold, grease, exhaust fumes, noise, dirt fields etc. At times required to get under a vehicle or climb into the engine compartment.

Requires frequent international travel over 25% - 50% of the time, including overnight stays.

Pay scale for this position is between $74,441 and $93,052. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
