Engineer II, Powertrain Calibration

JOB SUMMARY

Coordinates, analyzes, and reports on various tests concerning engine hardware and calibration. Assists in the development of engines , emissions systems, and xEV mainly through powertrain and vehicle testing. Provides engineering analysis from tests and reports findings. Position will receive some direction from manager and guidance from more senior staff but must also be able to use independent judgment.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Develop and test Performance and Emissions related calibrations for ICE or xEV by applying statistical DOE techniques, optimization etc.
  2. Analyzes and investigates results for powertrain and vehicle development as defined within their scope of responsibility.
  3. Plans and schedules all activities within their scope of responsibility being conscious of meeting all quality gate requirements and dates.
  4. Researches test procedures, equipment and facilities to improve the performance and reliability of Isuzu engines and vehicles.
  5. Investigates other manufacturer’s vehicles for comparison of performance, drive-ability, and emissions systems.
  6. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as assigned

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

  • Reports to: Supervisor, AE-PT

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with a minimum of five year’s full-time work experience in automotive research and development, concentrated experience in automotive engine development
  • Master’s degree in Engineering with a minimum of three year’s full-time work experience in automotive research and development, concentrated experience in automotive engine development
  • Advanced coursework in internal combustion engines or xEV preferred
  • Seminar/industrial training in specialty areas is preferred (CAMEO/DOE tools, GT-Suite, Matlab/Simulink)

KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of ICE or xEV and its components
  • Knowledge for future regulations and trends in the US market
  • Thorough understanding of combustion, exhaust aftertreatment, and DOE testing-based calibration development is a plus

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Excellent PC skills in Windows applications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Developed skills in engine development as demonstrated by scholarly/industrial achievements
  • Ability to organize/develop project goals and time schedules in area of expertise
  • Developed report writing skills
  • Analytical ability
  • Must be able to obtain and keep a commercial driving license and medical certificate

PHYSICAL STANDARDS

  • Employee must be able to perform occasional light lifting (5 - 25 lbs.) and rare heavy lifting (60 lbs.).
  • Must be able on rare occasions to bend, crawl, climb, crouch, kneel and reach above shoulder level in the performance of job duties. Must be able to work in hot, cold, and high altitude extremes.
  • Position requires 10 - 15% travel, including overnight and weekend stays.

We are looking for up to a Senior level engineer. The pay scale for an Engineer I in this role is $76,302 to $95,378. The pay scale for an Engineer II in this role is $83,032 to $105,866. The pay scale for a Sr. Engineer in this role is $92,161 to $117,505. The base salary will be determined based on a variety of factors, such as relevant experience and education.
